Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) Unfortunately, I haven't been on Laura Olson's site for a long time, although her wonderful symphonic works are on my wishlist, of course. So many great items fill my almost endless wishlist, and I lose track of them every now and then... I try to fix this mistake by stopping by here today, on Bandcamp Friday 10/2022. Moreover, I've bumped up the last remaining items of Laura's discography to the top of my list. Favorite track: Naming Day Feast-Lullaby for Dibbuns.

about

Mossflower Country is a blend of symphonic and electronic instruments designed to take the listener on a musical journey over a rich landscape. Each track represents a place, character, or event that is typified in the “Redwall” series of books by Brian Jacques. The idea is to feel like you are watching a movie only by creating the visual landscape and action in your head (much like reading these good books). The music ranges from peaceful, happy, exciting and adventurous to sorrowful, dangerous, and downright evil!
Laura’s debut album brings storytelling to a new level. Each track represents a place, character, or event that is in most of the typical Redwall books. Non readers of the Red Wall series also will appreciate the music for it's depth, color and the little touches like the sound effects sprinkled throughout. The music comes alive in a great scope of emotions and visual imagery without sounding “cartoony”.

Laura’s fans tend to be fans worldwide of film and TV scores. They like classically styled music but are bored with older “historical” composers. This album fills that niche. Also because this particular album is based on a youth reader series of adventure books, many fans tend to be very young. It is exciting to be ushering in a whole new generation of symphonic music lovers.
Like most classically trained musicians Laura studied piano and cello as a young child and fell in love with electronic music as well as celtic harp in her later years. Combining the three styles of music seems like a natural extension of her years as a symphonic musician. Mossflower Country is composed in the Celtic spirit with large scale orchestrations and choir in the scope of a big-budget feature film. Very satisfying!

about

Laura Olson Spokane, Washington

My music style is part classical and part synthesized, blending instruments in untraditional combinations. I prefer to use large orchestra, choirs, and sometimes include synthesized ambient sounds, such as ethereal electronics paired with the raw pure sounds of a wordless choir. What I can’t play and record by myself or other professionals is produced with the highest quality MIDI sampling. ... more
